ISSEY MIYAKE : The stylist of Steve Jobs
Born just before the Second World War, Issey Miyake had to grow up in wartime and face the trauma of nuclear bombs. When he grew up, he studied at a design school before joining the Parisian fashion trade union to become a fashion designer. When he arrived in Paris, he joined the May 68 demonstrations which influenced the philosophy of his creations, which he wanted to be open to all.
Thus, Issey Miyake’s clothes are designed to be timeless and comfortable. This is made possible by his creative work which always adapts to the proportions of the body.
If Issey Miyake is one of the most prominent Japanese designers, it is because he has invented a new approach to the creation of a garment. Based on new materials (often a mixture of synthetic and natural materials) Issey Miyake worked his clothes by first taking into account the specificity of these. This approach to design has also resulted in the creation of new sewing techniques such as A-POC (a piece of cloth) which also reduces the waste associated with tissue falls.
