Vintage Hunter : a Lacoste tag history
Founded in 1933 by René Lacoste and André Gilles, the French brand Lacoste quickly made a name for itself on the tennis courts with its famous cotton pique polo shirt, combining comfort, breathability and class.
From 1950 onwards, the brand began to make its mark on the world, particularly in the United States, thanks to a partnership with Izod, owned at the time by David Crystal and Vincent Draddy, with whom it entered into a contract to produce and distribute its products in the US. After a romance that lasted until 1993, the Izod and Lacoste partnership ended.
This is why on the old Lacoste clothes, you will find either the label “Izod Lacoste”, “Davi Crystal Lacoste” corresponding to the women’s line of Lacoste, or “Haymaker Lacoste”.
